For the love of haiku – geese
I really like geese – feisty creatures who know their own importance. I’ve just finished a book in which a small flock of them have quite a large part, so I was really pleased that today’s prompt is goose.
Go to Carpe Diem for some lovely haiku.
This topic ties in with one of my passing questions today – do this year’s creatures, birds and other animals, wonder why the nice warm summer has stopped?
The young geese take wing;
follow their elders southward.
Do they know why?
I agree in saying that the geese have a natural instinct and know what to do and why…another great haiku! 🙂

Don’t you feel there’s a kind of wisdom in this sort of instinct?

Yes, I do, definitely! 🙂

AH.. that was a great question… but maybe they got cold feet

Thank you for your comment. Geese have always struck me as being very ‘can do’ birds – even if their feet are cold.

they’ll figure it out when they get there….

You’re probably right. When they arrive somewhere nice and warm, it’ll feel right to them and worth the long flight. Thank you for the suggestion.

I asked geese questions too. It is a marvel.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could understand their answers? After migrating for thousands of miles they must have so much knowledge of different places. Thank you for your comment and for sharing the marvel of birds.

Do they have to know why? 😉

You make a good point and I think probably not. Perhaps being preoccupied with ‘why’ is a human thing and birds manage well without it. Thanks you for the suggestion.

Awesome respons on goose … I think birds and animals know instinctively that summer is over.

I think you are probably right. I suppose a creature guided more by instinct than we are has no need of so many questions and answers. Thank you for pointing out the role of instinct.

Does anyone really know why anything happens? Very nice haiku.

Thank you for your comment. I think you may be right – the ‘why’ may be beyond our understanding or maybe just hidden. As humans we tend to fill in the gaps, but we could be quite wrong in our answers to questions like ‘Why?’.

lovely ku again! the birds trust their natural instinct , me think, besides that they are our messengers when the seasons are ready to change.

Thank you for your comment. I love the idea of geese as messengers. They no doubt pick up on things like changes in the weather much more quickly than we do.
